Actress Sonam Bajwa adopted an indie from the street two years ago while shooting for a film. Excerpts from her reaction over the Supreme Court's order on August 11 to move all stray dogs of Delhi inside shelters permanently, away from human habitation: This is not a humane solution, it’s cruel. I can't imagine my life without Cookie (her adopted indie dog) besides my Simba (her other pet). I feel terribly sad, heartbroken and helpless. What kind of system of delivering a solution is this? This is a total failure of the MCD, they don’t vaccinate or sterilise the dogs and now they are suddenly putting every community dog in a shelter! We are all aware that how well-equipped our shelters are. Firstly, there are no shelters, where are they in Delhi? And to accommodate approximately 3 lakh dogs in eight weeks, how are they going to achieve this? This is not going to go anywhere. This is really like mass killing, culling of dogs. This makes me really upset and I hope that the honourable Supreme Court can reconsider their order. This is not how the stray dogs situation is handled globally and we should adopt more humane ways with lessons from other countries to handle this sensitive situation.
